Surprise, surprise

Fool me once….

In Israel-Palestine, Middle East on December 2, 2009 at 3:23 pm

“Israel approved on Wednesday the construction of 84 buildings in West Bank settlements, despite a 10-month moratorium on new building in the territories that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced last week. ” – Haaretz.com

Slowly, but surely

No justice. No peace.

“No matter how tall, all walls fall”

In Israel-Palestine, Middle East on November 6, 2009 at 12:40 pm

“The weekly demonstrations against the West Bank separation barrier in the towns of Bil’in and Na’alin, which take place every Friday, reached new heights this week when activists, seeking to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the falling of the Berlin Wall, knocked a part of the barrier over.” – Haaretz.com

J Street: a wolf in sheep’s clothing?

In Israel-Palestine, Middle East, The United States of America, Washington D.C. on October 29, 2009 at 8:21 am

“On many of the specific issues, J Street is AIPAC lite.  It accepts an Israeli state based on religion, not on equal rights for all citizens, specifically supporting the apartheid-like right of any Jew to “return” without affording similar rights to Christians or Muslims who resided in Palestine before 1948. Its Executive Director Jeremy Ben-Ami calls a one-state solution to Israel/Palestine with all citizens having the same rights a “nightmare.”” – Philip Giraldi – antiwar.org

I suppose the one-state solution in South Africa – with all citizens enjoying the same rights – is also a “nightmare”. Israel-Palestine is already one state, with the Israeli government effectively controlling all land and people between the Mediterranean Sea and the River Jordon. God forbid they should have equal rights.

The former IDF chief of staff is one of several current and former senior Israeli officials whom pro-Palestinian groups have sought to put on trial over the assassination of senior Hamas terrorist Salah Shehadeh in July 2002. The attack also killed 14 civilians.” – Haaretz

Bill and Kathleen Christison on Palestine

In Israel-Palestine, Middle East on October 24, 2009 at 3:33 pm

But this is classic colonialism, designed to make things just enough better to take the edge off the anger of the colonized: you fill the natives’ stomachs and hope they become tame, that they won’t want to resist your oppression, that they’ll forget that they have no freedom, that they still live under oppression, always at the mercy of a colonialist oppressor who has no intention of relinquishing his domination or ending his exploitation of the oppressed and their resources.” – counterpunch.org

Financial Times on Goldstone Report

In Israel-Palestine, Middle East on October 23, 2009 at 11:21 am

“From the moment Mr Goldstone, former chief prosecutor for the UN special tribunals for Yugoslavia and Rwanda, was appointed, Israel refused to co-operate with him and denied him entry. It was his reputation the government feared (and attacked) not his methods.” – Financial Times

President Obama, your response

In Israel-Palestine, Middle East on October 22, 2009 at 11:22 am

“South African jurist Richard Goldstone, who led a damning United Nations probe into Israel’s offensive in the Gaza Strip last winter, has challenged Barack Obama’s administration to justify its claims that the report is one-sided and flawed.” – Haaretz.com

Rabbis for Human Rights

In Israel-Palestine, Middle East on October 22, 2009 at 7:27 am

“Each year during the olive season Ascherman leads a group of rabbinical students, and Israeli and international volunteers to accompany Palestinian farmers as they try to harvest their olives. IPS joined them as they accompanied Palestinian farmers to their olive groves in the northern West Bank villages of Awarta and Jit.” – antiwar.com
